About Us
RLN East is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2005 as a joint initiative between UK Trade & Investment and the East of England Development Agency. We sit within the central team of UKTI East of England.
Our core remit is to develop and implement language & culture strategy for business & employment for the East of England. Since April 2011 this activity has been extended to cover multi-regional activity. RLN East manages and delivers projects both in the UK and internationally.
Our key target groups are the business community (in particular SMEs), the prison service & government bodies, and we also provide support to the mainstream education sector through links with business.
Our Constitution and remit is governed by an Advisory Board consisting of Members from UK Trade & Investment, the East of England Development Agency, the National Offender Management Service, the National Apprenticeships Service, and 3 business representatives.
Our projects cover a wide range of activity including the following:
- Language & Culture for International Trade: projects supporting over 600 businesses in improving their competitiveness vis-à-vis overseas markets
- Language & Culture for Sector-Specific Support: projects supporting the identified needs of specific sectors, including advanced manufacturing, life sciences, food & drink, ICT and creative & media
- Language & Culture for Public Security projects supporting the prison service
- Language & Culture for a Multilingual Workforce: projects supporting employers of a multilingual and multicultural workforce
- Education into Employment: supporting employers who work with schools on promoting the use & benefits of language & culture skills to the world of employment
- Language Policy & Best Practice: projects which support the identification and transfer of best practice from around the world
Resources developed under these projects include 'How to' Guides, culture field reports, language training materials, prison phrase books, survey reports, news sheets and planning tools
