Beyond 2010
RLN East (UKTI) has been working with the East of England Development Agency to support companies involved in international trade through the funding of language training. 60 companies are being referred to the Beyond 2010 project from a variety of sectors, with a particular focus on manufacturing, food & drink, life sciences and creative & media.
TransQual
RLN East is working with regional employers to refer migrant staff with low levels of English language skills to the TransQual project. Following pilot training with Ponti's Restaurant at Stansted Airport, the referrals are currently being compiled, focussed on employers in the agrifood sector.
NOMS
RLN East is supporting the work of ESOL provision in the prison service through the supply and development of prison phrase books based on key communications between prison staff and offenders. The booklets are available in Chinese, Vietnamese, Polish, Portugues & Romanian. The booklets have been received with enthusiasm by staff and offenders alike, and plans to develop new languages are being discussed.
