Additional Prison Phrasebooks Added to Portfolio

As part of the ESF-funded LACE (Language & Culture for Employment) project, the next in the series of the blue prison phrase booklets will soon be ready for diversity & education staff in East of England establishments. The booklets, developed by RLN East in partnership with HMP Blundeston, will be ready in early August and cover the languages Arabic and Russian.

Also available shall be the CD-ROM versions of the ESOL sector-specific materials developed by LSIS and a range of EU projects. These are a collection of PDF training units designed to help offenders access jobs both in prison industries and upon release. They include catering, cleaning, agriculture, construction and manufacturing, to name just a few.

We plan to visit the establishments during the weeks 9-11 and 16-18 August, and shall be getting in touch with prison contacts on Mon & Tue 8-9 August with a view to arranging a time to meet. If you are a member of diversity or education staff who have dealt with us before, please feel free to contact David Owen on davidowen.ukti@eeda.org.uk to arrange a time & date for a visit.

The blue booklets are available via download from www.rln-east.com/lace and contain the languages Chinese, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian & Chinese, with Arabic & Russian soon to be added.
